Malik Ram

(1906–1993)
Malik Ram Baweja was an eminent Urdu, Persian, and Arabic scholar, best known as one of the foremost authorities on the poet Mirza Ghalib. Born in Phalia, Punjab (now Pakistan), he was educated at Government College, Lahore, and Punjab University, and later served in India's civil service, including postings in Egypt. His major works include Zikr-e-Ghalib, Fasana-e-Ghalib, and Khutoot-e-Ghalib, alongside his edited compilation of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's writings and the four-volume Tazkirah-e-Muasireen. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 and later the Dr. Zakir Hussain International Award, and also founded Ilmi Majlis and the literary journal Tahreer. He remained a prolific writer until his death in 1993, donating his library to Jamia Hamdard University in Delhi.
