Ram Babu Saksena was an Indian scholar, civil servant, and researcher of Urdu and Persian literature. Though he had many works to his credit, his most enduring work was A History of Urdu Literature, published in 1927 by Naval Kishore Press in Lucknow, which brought him lasting fame. He also authored Tareekh Adab-e-Urdu, Addha and Other Stories, and European & Indo-European Poets of Urdu & Persian, and held the civil title of Rai Bahadur. He remained a passionate advocate for Urdu even in unfavorable settings, once raising a lone voice in its favor at an otherwise anti-Urdu session of the Hindustani Academy. He died in 1957, remembered as a dedicated champion of Urdu literary scholarship.
