Akbar Allahabadi, born Syed Akbar Hussain, was an Indian Urdu poet widely regarded as one of the greatest satirists in Urdu literature. Born in 1846 near Allahabad, he studied law after an early education in madrasas and English schools, and went on to serve as a Sessions judge at the Allahabad High Court. He is best known for his witty, satirical verse that captured the cultural clash between traditional Indian society and encroaching Western influence, using everyday imagery in a way that broke new ground in Urdu poetry. His popular ghazal "Hangama Hai Kyon Barpa" remains widely sung and quoted today. He passed away in Allahabad in 1921, remembered as a poet who blended humor with sharp social and political commentary.
