Rashid Khalidi

Rashid Khalidi is a Palestinian-American historian of the Middle East and the Edward Said Professor Emeritus of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University. Born in 1948, he earned his BA from Yale and his D.Phil. from Oxford, and has taught at institutions including Georgetown, the University of Chicago, and the American University of Beirut. He is the author of several books on Palestinian and Middle Eastern history, including The Hundred Years' War on Palestine, Palestinian Identity, and Brokers of Deceit, and served as an advisor to the Palestinian delegation during the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations in the early 1990s. He also served for many years as editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies and as president of the Middle East Studies Association. His work has appeared in major outlets including the New York Times and the Boston Globe, and he has received fellowships from the MacArthur and Ford Foundations, among others.
