Mirza Athar Baig is a Pakistani novelist, playwright, and short story writer known for bringing bold, experimental narrative styles into modern Urdu literature. Born in Sharaqpur, Punjab, in 1950, he has long been associated with the Department of Philosophy at Government College University in Lahore, where he has taught alongside his writing career. His debut novel, Ghulam Bagh (The Garden of Slaves), is widely regarded as one of the most significant works in Urdu fiction and has gone through multiple editions since its 2006 release. His other major works include the short story collection Beh Afsana, and the novels Sifar Se Aik Tak and Hasan Ki Surat-e-Hal. He has also written extensively for television, and his fiction is noted for its philosophical depth and innovative structure.
