Ashfaq Ahmed was a celebrated Pakistani writer, playwright, and broadcaster known for his storytelling across fiction, radio, and television. Born in 1925, he earned his master's in Urdu from Government College Lahore, where he studied alongside fellow writer Bano Qudsia, whom he later married. His 1953 short story "Gadariya" brought him early fame, and he went on to write acclaimed works including "Ek Mohabbat Sau Afsane", "Tota Kahani", and his best-known book, "Zaviya" — which grew out of his popular TV program exploring life, Sufism, and human psychology. He also hosted the long-running radio show Talqeen Shah and was honored with Pakistan's Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance awards. He passed away in Lahore in 2004, leaving a legacy centered on humanism and spiritual reflection.
