Faiz Ahmed Faiz was one of the most celebrated Urdu poets of the 20th century, renowned for blending classical poetic form with themes of love, social justice, and political resistance. Born in Sialkot in 1911, he was educated in Arabic and English at Government College, Lahore, and became a leading figure of the Progressive Writers' Movement. His major poetry collections include Naqsh-e-Faryadi, Dast-e-Saba, and Zindan Nama — the latter two written partly during his imprisonment for political dissent. In 1962, he received the Lenin Peace Prize in recognition of his work, and he later spent years in exile in Beirut before returning to Lahore, where he died in 1984. His poetry remains widely read and sung across South Asia and beyond.
