Jaun Elia

(1931–2002)
Jaun Elia was a celebrated Urdu poet, philosopher, and scholar, born in Amroha, India, into an intellectually rich family. After Partition, he migrated to Karachi, Pakistan, where he became known for his unconventional, melancholic, and philosophically dense poetry exploring loss, longing, and existential themes. His first anthology, Shaayad, was published only in 1991, followed posthumously by collections like Yaani, Gumaan, and Lekin. He was honored by the Pakistani government for his contributions to literature and remains one of the most widely read and quoted modern Urdu poets, his verses still resonating decades after his death in 2002.
