Munir Niazi

(1928–2006)
Munir Niazi was a celebrated Urdu and Punjabi poet from Pakistan, born in Khanpur near Hoshiarpur, and known for imagery-rich poetry exploring nostalgia, dreams, and romance. He migrated to Sahiwal after Partition and later studied at Dyal Singh College, Lahore. His notable works include Tez Hawa Aur Tanha Phool, Jangal Mein Dhanak, and Mah-e-Munir, alongside acclaimed Punjabi collections. He received Pakistan's Pride of Performance (1992) and Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and also wrote many popular Pakistani film songs. He died in Lahore in 2006, remembered as one of the most influential poetic voices of his generation.
