Hakim Ahmad Shuja

Hakim Ahmad Shuja was a prolific Urdu and Persian poet, playwright, essayist, and screenwriter, born in Lahore into an old family of scholars and mystics. He built a career at the Punjab Legislative Assembly, eventually retiring as its Secretary, while also editing literary magazines like Hazar Dastaan and later helping standardize Urdu terminology as Secretary of the Official Language Committee. He's best known for works like Lahore ka Chelsea and his autobiography Khoon-Baha, and he was also a pioneering screenwriter for early Pakistani cinema, penning several film lyrics and scripts. He passed away in Lahore in 1969, remembered as a versatile literary figure who helped shape both Urdu letters and the country's early film industry.
