Christopher de Bellaigue

Christopher de Bellaigue is a British author and journalist known for his long-form reporting and historical writing on the Middle East and South Asia. Born in London in 1971, he has worked as a journalist in the region since 1994, including a long stint as Tehran correspondent for The Economist, and has contributed to The New Yorker, Granta, Harper's, and The New York Review of Books. His books include In the Rose Garden of the Martyrs: A Memoir of Iran (shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature's Ondaatje Prize), The Islamic Enlightenment, and Patriot of Persia: Muhammad Mossadegh and a Tragic Anglo-American Coup. He has also written Rebel Land, an exploration of history and memory in a Turkish town, which was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize. He has held fellowships at Oxford, Harvard, and St Andrews, and founded the Lake District Book Festival in 2024.
