Abdul Majeed Salik was a prominent Urdu journalist, essayist, and poet, best known as a leading figure in pre-Partition Urdu print media. Born in Batala, Gurdaspur district, in 1894, he built a long career as an editor, most notably of the influential newspaper Zamindar, and later of Inqilab. He also wrote widely as an essayist and poet, and authored notable works including Zikr-e-Iqbal, a biography of the poet-philosopher Allama Iqbal, and Muslim Sahafat Hindustan Mein, a history of Muslim journalism in India. His autobiography, Sarguzasht, is also considered an important work. Salik moved to Pakistan in 1947 and remained an influential literary and journalistic voice until his death in Lahore in 1959.
